Dental Implants for Missing Teeth
Injury or disease could lead to tooth loss. A person can experience complications such as rapid bone loss, defective speech, or changes to chewing patterns that cause discomfort.
A dental implant designed to replace a lost tooth can significantly improve the person’s quality of life and health.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are medical devices surgically implanted into the jaw to restore a person’s ability to chew or their appearance. They provide support for artificial (man-made) teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures.
A dental implant is a fixed dental solution designed to replace one or more missing or decaying teeth. There are 3 parts to single dental implant:
- the fixture, a small titanium screw; this is surgically inserted into the jaw bone. This turns into the “tooth root” that holds everything in place
- the abutment, the middle part that joints the fixture to the new crown
- the crown, the top part that looks like a tooth, designed to match the existing and adjacent teeth
Implants are considered the benchmark solution for replacing missing or damaged teeth.
There are benefits and risks involved in any dental procedures, if you are wondering if you’d be a suitable candidate for an implant, please make a consultation appointment with us to have your questions answered.
