Porcelain Veneers Explained

Porcelain veneers are a type of dental veneers which are thin, tooth-like shells custom-made to fit over your natural teeth. Dental veneers are often a long-term solution to address the following cosmetic issues:

  • Gaps between teeth

  • Small teeth

  • Discoloration and stained teeth

  • Over translucent teeth

  • Cracks or chips in teeth

  • Mild teeth misalignment

Laser Veneer Removal

By utilising dental laser to remove old porcelain veneers is a far more efficient way than manually remove the veneers by the dentist hand-piece. The laser technology can efficiently break the bonding in between the thin porcelain veneer and tooth. Therefore by employing the laser technology to remove veneers, it often makes the procedure quicker and more comfortable for our patients, as it requires less anesthesia, and minimises post-operative discomfort.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge can replace missing teeth or tooth. The bridge is attached to your teeth on either side of the gap. Dental bridge is not removable. It’s fixed in place during the dental bridge insertion procedure.

The results are natural and tailored specifically to suit your mouth, adjacent teeth colour, and jaw relationship.

Bridges are usually made of porcelain and metals such as zirconia and gold alloy.

Dentures

Dentures are also called “False Teeth”. They are removable oral appliances that replace missing teeth. At SmileOn Perth, we provide a few types of dentures, including full, partial and implant-retained dentures.

Full dentures

This type of denture replaces an entire arch of missing teeth, some people called this type of denture as a “complete denture”.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures may be an option if you’re missing several or most of your teeth in one or both jaws.

For a full or partial denture, you will need a healthy jawbone ridge and enough gums for support and stability.

Implant-retained dentures

Instead of relying on your jawbone ridge and gums for support, implant-retained dentures attach to dental implants. Dental implants are small, metal posts that are placed in your jawbone surgically by dentists to replace missing teeth roots.

Implant-retained dentures usually offer better stability when compared to traditional dentures because they “snap on” to implants embedded in your jaw. No denture glue is required.

Implant-retained dentures are removable. You can take them out at night to give them a proper clean.

With proper care and maintenance, the average lifespan of a denture is expected to be around 7 to 10 years.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding can address minor issues that may include:

  • Slightly misaligned teeth

  • Slightly gappy teeth

  • Slightly chipped teeth

  • Slightly shorter teeth

Laser Gum Lift and Gum Contouring Treatment

At SmileOn Perth, we use our specialised laser technology to reshape and remove excess gum tissues. The laser contour your gums very gently and healing is quite fast as there’s no bleeding, and it would not leave any scarring. With this procedure, we are aiming to achieve a better ratio of gums to teeth in order to a get a proportionate smile for you.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening Kit

Whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home, using a take home kit. It begins with a teeth whitening consultation, if you are a suitable candidate:

  • A digital intraoral scan to be arranged for your teeth whitening take home trays, no more impression moulds in your mouth

  • Take home whitening kit including clear teeth whitening trays and teeth whitening gel

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a cap covering an existing tooth. It can improve the aesthetics and functions of a decayed or broken tooth.

You might be a suitable candidate for a dental crown if you:

  • have a broken or cracked tooth

  • have a badly decayed tooth

  • have a discoloured tooth that had root canal treatment

  • want to protect a weakened tooth

  • want to cover a badly shaped tooth

Dental crowns can be made from porcelain, zirconia, gold alloy or a combination of porcelain and metal.

Dental Implant

Dental implant surgery is a procedure that replaces tooth root(s) with metal post(s) and replaces damaged or missing tooth or teeth with artificial teeth that mimics the look and function of the real teeth.

Dental implant surgery can be a better alternative to dentures or dental bridges that no longer fit well due to a number of reasons.

In order to find out if you are a suitable candidate for an implant, a few criteria will need to be met including but not limited to the followings:

  • your jawbone is healthy

  • you have enough bone to hold the implant

  • your gums healthy

The major benefit of implants is a solid support for your new teeth. However this process requires the bone to heal healthily around the implant post. Because this bone healing process takes time, the process can take a few months, so you’d need to plan ahead if you are considering a dental implant procedure.
