Treatment risks and considerations

Check-up & Clean

A clinical examination of your teeth, gums, and surrounding oral structures, accompanied by professional scaling and polishing to remove calculus and plaque. Regular dental examinations assist in the identification of dental conditions at an early stage. The frequency of recommended examinations varies depending on individual clinical circumstances.

White (Tooth-Coloured) Fillings

Composite resin fillings are tooth-coloured restorations used to repair teeth affected by decay or minor damage. The decayed or damaged portion of the tooth is removed and the area is filled with a resin material that is shaped and set. As with all restorations, composite fillings have a finite lifespan and may require replacement over time.

Clinical assessment is required to determine the most appropriate restorative material for your circumstances.

Tooth Extraction

The clinical removal of a tooth from its socket in the jaw bone. Extractions may be recommended when a tooth cannot be restored, is causing clinical concern, or is significantly affecting oral health. Risks include bleeding, infection, dry socket, and effects on adjacent teeth and structures.

Post-operative care instructions are provided following this procedure.

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth removal or extraction (third molars) may require assessment and, in some cases, removal if they are impacted, partially erupted, or causing clinical concern such as pain, infection, or crowding of adjacent teeth. Wisdom tooth removal is a surgical procedure and carries risks including bleeding, infection, swelling, effects on adjacent nerves, and dry socket. Surgical complexity varies depending on the position and development of the tooth.

An assessment including dental radiographs is required prior to any decision regarding wisdom tooth management.

Dentures

Removable prosthetic devices designed to replace one or more missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Dentures are fabricated to fit the individual oral anatomy of each patient. Both full (complete) and partial dentures are available. Clinical assessment is required to determine the most appropriate type for your circumstances.

Mouthguard

Custom-fabricated mouthguards are dental appliances worn over the teeth to provide protection during contact sports or to manage the effects of bruxism (teeth grinding and clenching). Professionally fabricated mouthguards are made from impressions of your teeth and are designed to fit your individual dental anatomy. Over-the-counter alternatives are available but differ in construction and fit.

A clinical assessment is recommended to determine the most appropriate type of mouthguard for your circumstances.

Crowns & Bridges

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering placed over a prepared tooth to restore its form, function, and appearance. A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth. Both procedures involve the permanent alteration of existing tooth structure.

Clinical assessment is required prior to treatment.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a titanium fixture surgically placed into the jaw bone to support a prosthetic tooth (crown), bridge, or denture. Implant placement is a surgical procedure and carries risks including infection, bleeding, implant failure, nerve effects, and sinus involvement in the upper jaw. The outcome of an implant depends on adequate bone volume and density, general health status, and individual healing response.

A thorough clinical and radiographic assessment is required to determine suitability prior to any implant treatment.

Teeth Whitening

Professional dental bleaching involves the controlled application of a peroxide-based agent to lighten tooth discolouration. Temporary tooth sensitivity may result. The degree of colour change varies between individuals and cannot be predicted with certainty. Whitening does not alter the colour of existing crowns, veneers, composite restorations, or other dental prostheses.

A clinical assessment is required prior to treatment.

Laser Veneer Removal

A procedure utilising dental laser technology to assist in the removal of existing porcelain or composite veneers. This service is available for patients seeking removal of existing veneers. As with any dental procedure, there are associated clinical risks and considerations.

Individual suitability requires clinical assessment.

Gum Recontour

Gum recontour (Gingivectomy) is a procedure involving the reshaping of gum tissue to modify the gum line. It may be indicated for clinical or aesthetic reasons, such as correcting uneven gum margins or addressing excess gum display. As with all procedures involving gum tissue, risks include post-operative bleeding, swelling, discomfort during healing, and the potential for recurrence.

A thorough clinical and periodontal assessment is required prior to this procedure.
